blog entry 26 nov

l          Left/right hand drive, kept getting in from the wrong side whenever I return to Singapore.

l          Applied for driving classes for local license, but didn’t go for it in the end coz of my transfer from TJ to SH. My wife stood in for me instead.

l          For locals, they can pay someone else to take theory test for them for a small fee, quite a common practice. And medical checkups is not needed as all you need is to sign on the ‘completed’ form.

l          Some already know how to drive (like my wife’s relative), but they’ve never get their license. They don’t have to go for lessons, and they get their license on the spot.

l          Cost of cars here is damn cheap. Toyota vios is 60+K RMB, the same car costs ard 50+K Sing, that means for the same car in S’pore, I can get 4 cars in Tianjin with enough spare for a trip to HK disneyland

l          Budden, even if got license, I still fear driving here. The traffic rules are largely ignored outside the city, and in some places, the traffic lights aren’t working.

l          While turning at traffic light junctions, the vehicle has the right of way instead of the pedestrian in the case of s’pore. Very dangerous for first timers to cross the roads here.

l          Traffic jams is atrocious, the choking smog is unbearable.
